Tangerine

“If the sky would just keep to a shade that had as much as I have to say it’d be tangerine, fighting the fade back to navy.” – a lyric from January, a song on my new record Tangerine

I’ve been a sunset catcher for as long as I’ve had a bicycle and lived near-enough a place to see the Western horizon. It was one evening in Boston, I laid on my roof and watched the sky fade all the way from bright orange to deep navy. Ever since then the sequence has stuck in my head. What a brilliant range of expression, shamelessly emanating for miles and miles, unhidden, uncensored.

Could I be like that sky? Could I allow myself to speak my truth – could I allow myself to hear my truth? Could I opt to be my own advocate and voice instead of clouding up and selling myself short?

The sunset sky is now my reminder to be brave, to fight for a good view of my internal horizon and to speak for it with rigor.
